How do I scan a receipt?

Tap the round Scan button at the right end of the tab bar. Fit the receipt inside the corners and take the photo, or pick one you already have from your library.

Avocando reads the shop, the date, the total and each line. Check them on the review screen, change anything that's wrong, and tap Save.

The scan read something wrong

Fix it on the review screen before you save. If you've already saved it, open the entry and tap Edit.

Scans read best when the receipt lies flat, in good light, with all of it in the frame. Faded thermal paper is the hardest case. If a long receipt won't fit, take the photo from a little further away rather than cutting off the total.

Where are my receipt photos kept?

You choose for each receipt on the review screen. The default is set in Settings, Keep receipt photos.

  • Don't keep: the photo is deleted once the entry is saved. The amounts and items stay.
  • This phone: the photo stays in Avocando on your iPhone, and goes into your iPhone's own backup. It's gone if you delete the app, and people in your household can't see it.
  • Phone + cloud: the photo is also kept on our server, so it's on your other devices and your household can see shared ones.

Every saved receipt with a photo is in Activity, Receipts.

Is there a limit on scans?

Yes, 60 a day for each account. That's far more than most people scan, and it keeps the service running for everyone. The count starts again at midnight UTC. Adding entries by hand has no limit.

I'm using Avocando as a guest. What happens if I lose my phone?

A guest account lives only on that phone, so if the phone or the app goes, so does your data. Nobody can recover it, us included.

To keep it safe, go to Settings and tap Save your account. Sign in with Apple, Google or email, and everything you've recorded stays where it is.

How do I share spending with my household?

Go to Settings, Family, and create a household. You'll get an invite code to send to the people you live with. They enter it under I have an invite code.

Each entry can be shared or private. Shared entries go into the household's ledger, which everyone in it can see in Activity, Family. Private entries are yours alone. Everyone in a household uses the same currency, and nobody can edit anyone else's entries.

You need to be signed in to create or join a household. Guests can't.

I paid in another currency

Turn on Spent overseas and pick the currency. Avocando converts the amount at the published rate for that day. If your card charged something different, choose My rate or Enter total and put in what you actually paid.

Can I get my data out?

Yes. Go to Settings, Export to spreadsheet, and pick a time range. You get a CSV file that opens in Numbers, Excel or Google Sheets, which you can save to Files, email or AirDrop.

How do I delete my account?

Go to Settings, Delete data, Delete my account. It removes your entries, receipts, photos and the account itself, and you can't undo it. To start fresh but keep the account, choose Erase all my data instead.

Entries you shared with a household are removed too. The Privacy Policy explains how long anything stays in our backups.
